On the first weekend of September 2013, join us on our incredible journey...2 humans and 2 dogs traveling unencumbered across the United States on the American Discovery Trail. Living life in the most simplest terms. Going where our ancestors have gone before us. Our trip will begin in Ohio City, Ohio. Our goal is to head east to Denton, Delaware, and then end in Point Reyes National Seashore in Northern California. Then we will turn around and come back on the southern access of the ADT, and onward to who knows... We may like it so much that the trek back won't be so bad!
Our two companions (of the 4 legged kind) shall be Bindi Sue, a rescue from a back yard breeder (Suburu Sue) and Chelsea Gene. Sue is a 6 yr old mixed breed consisting of Australian Shepard, German Shepard and Husky mix. Sue has been in my life since she was 7 weeks old. Chelsea is 15 lb, 2 yr old black pug that thinks she is a big 'ol pitbull. Chelsea came to us at 8 weeks old.
Our goal is to walk and talk with people on this trail about different dog breeds and the many benefits of adopting a shelter pet. We believe this will serve as an excellent awareness campaign to aid in earning monetary donations for various animal shelters across the United States. We would also like to convince at least one family of the joys of rescuing a shelter pet instead of buying from a breeder. We are also promoting the idea of donating to low income families that love their pets but need an extra hand with vet bills, or help with lowering costs of shots and spaying and neutering. You would be surprised how many states do not have programs that help low income families with anything other then the spaying/neutering!
Life is too short to waste an opportunity as this!
May the wind be at our backs and the roads rise to meet us! We hope to have an awesome journey with minimal craziness, but...whatever comes...its our journey!
